A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) at the Petrobangla Board Room.

The agreement aims to strengthen collaborative initiatives in education, research, and training.
The signing ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of BUET, Professor Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman and the Chairman of Petrobangla, Mr. Md. Rezanur Rahman, says a press release.

The MoU was signed on behalf of Petrobangla by its Secretary (Senior General Manager), Mr. Md. Amzad Hossain, and on behalf of BUET by the Director of the Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE), Professor Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam. BUET`s Deputy Director (RISE) as well as Directors and senior officials of Petrobangla, were also present at the ceremony.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology is a prestigious, top-tier engineering university in Bangladesh and well-known on the international stage. The alumni of BUET have notable and esteemed contributions at important positions both at home and abroad. This MoU is expected to accelerate research activities through enhanced information exchange between Petrobangla and the faculty and students of BUET. Such collaboration will play a significant role in meeting future industry needs.

Through the mutual exchange of knowledge, technology, and experience, both institutions stand to gain significantly. In addition, the MoU will support the professional skill development of personnel, facilitate joint research initiatives, and promote knowledge enhancement through meetings, seminars, and workshops. Access to industry laboratories and software, along with opportunities to visit drilling sites, seismic survey operations, process plants, and coal or hard-rock mines, will enable practical application of academic research in real-world industrial contexts. Conversely, the real-world industrial experience will help strengthen the academic curriculum of BUET.

For research purposes, BUET will be granted access to all relevant information except confidential or sensitive data pertinent to national security. The MoU will remain effective for five years from the date of signing and may be renewed automatically for an additional five-year term. Globally, strong partnerships between industry and academia have become an essential driver for the exchange of knowledge, technology, and expertise.

Such collaborations are not merely transactional relationships between a giver and a receiver, but rather mutually beneficial engagements aimed at collective advancement and cooperation. This MoU is expected to further strengthen research collaboration and foster a deeper, long-term partnership between Petrobangla and BUET.
