Buddha Purnima, the most sacred and significant religious festival of the Buddhist community, will be observed across the country tomorrow with traditional enthusiasm and solemn religious devotion.

Recognized as the holiest day in Buddhism, Buddha Purnima also marks the International Vesak Day, as designated by the United Nations in 2000.

The festival commemorates three profound events in the life of Gautama Buddha that occurred on this very day: his birth as Siddhartha Gautama, his attainment of supreme enlightenment, and his passing into Nirvana-the ultimate liberation from worldly desire. This day holds deep spiritual significance for Buddhists around the globe.

On this auspicious occasion, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus extended heartfelt greetings to members of the Buddhist community and the people of Bangladesh.

In his message on the eve of the celebration, he reaffirmed that Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony, where people of diverse religions, ethnicities, and castes have coexisted peacefully for centuries.

He emphasized that the country remains a secure and welcoming home for all, regardless of their religious or cultural background.

“The great Gautama Buddha, through his renunciation of worldly desires, illuminated the path for humanity. He championed non-violence and dedicated his teachings to the pursuit of peace and the well-being of all,” the Chief Adviser said.

Apart from these, on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, Buddhist religious leaders and representatives from the Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust met with Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Saturday. The meeting, held at the State Guest House Jamuna, included an exchange of greetings between the delegation and the Chief Adviser.

Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain, Adviser for Religious Affairs, was also present during the event.
In a message released by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, Professor Yunus extended heartfelt greetings to the Buddhist community in Bangladesh and across the globe on the eve of Buddha Purnima.

He noted that “the values taught by Lord Buddha-promoting peace, harmony, and unity-are especially meaningful in today’s world.”

“May this sacred occasion guide humanity forward with compassion, understanding, and happiness,” the Chief Adviser expressed in his message.
