Nineteen teachers and officials including Vice Chancellor and Proctor of Barishal University resigned on Tuesday after students of the university demanded their resignation within 24-hour.
BU registrar Monirul Islam said that the 19 teachers and officials along withsix members of the proctorial body including VC Badruzaman Bhuiyan and Proctor Abdul Qayyum have resigned..
Other teachers and officials who resigned included the provost of four halls, controller of examinations, director of physical education, director of TSC, director of student counseling center and librarian.
Public relations officer of the university Faisal Hasan told Barishal University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Badruzzaman Bhuiya stated in his resignation letter that he voluntarily resigned due to personal and family reasons at 11.30 pm on Monday.
At the same time Proctor Qayyum Hussain along with members of Proctoral bodyalso resigned, the PRO added.
It is noted that the general students of Barishal University announced a program demanding the resignation of the VC and Proctor within 24 hours citing various reasons including corruption, irregularities.
He resigned at a stage when the students surrounded the VC’s house on Monday night on this demand.
Earlier on August 19, the VC announced his withdrawal from all political and party activities and apologized for the disruptive activities in a meeting with the student representatives earlier.
