City Desk:

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has ordered the International Internet Gateway (IIG) to start Google’s cache server to increase internet speed in the country.
The internet has become faster since the order was issued on Thursday (July 25). Users can seamlessly use YouTube, but Facebook and TikTok remain inaccessible, reports media.
Google Global Cache (GGC) allows internet service providers to serve certain Google content from within their own networks. This eases congestion within their network and reduces the amount of traffic on peering and transit links.
Bangladesh suffered an internet blackout on the night of July 18 after miscreants allegedly set fire to the data centre during the quota reform movement.
Broadband services were resumed on an experimental basis on the night of July 23. Since Wednesday night (July 24), broadband internet connections to residential areas have been restored.
Meanwhile, the government says it will restore mobile internet services on Sunday (July 28) or Monday (July 29).
