Sylhet Bureau :
The BSF has finally returned the body of Abdur Rahman (30), who was killed inside India at the Dona border in Kanaighat, Sylhet, to Bangladesh.
The BSF handed over the body to the BGB through a flag meeting in the area adjacent to International Pillar 1339 at around 1 am on Tuesday (September 2). Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanaighat Police Station Md. Abdul Awal said that since the evening, the BGB, police and local public representatives were waiting for the body to be returned to the border. When the Meghalaya police reached the border late at night with the boxed body, the Kanaighat Police Station received the body in the presence of the BGB after the flag meeting formalities. Later, after completing the legal process, it was handed over to the family of the deceased. According to local sources, on Friday (August 30) afternoon, the BSF opened fire about 300 yards inside India at the point between pillars 1338-39 of the border. Abdur Rahman, son of the deceased Khalilur Rahman of Kanaighat Barachatol Purba village, was killed on the spot. He was on his way back from buying buffaloes from Indian traders along with a few others when the attack occurred. Although the others injured in the shooting managed to return to Bangladesh somehow, Abdur Rahman’s body remained at the border. After the incident, BGB Dona Camp contacted BSF and asked for the body back. After several rounds of discussions, the body was finally handed over in a night meeting.
