Joypurhat Correspondent:
It has been alleged that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed an Indian citizen into Bangladesh through one of the Joypurhat-Hili border crossings. The victim of the push-in has been identified as Jiban De (52), a resident of Kullarghat Bherapanni area of Assam, India.
It is learnt that he was admitted to the Joypurhat 250-bed General Hospital as an ‘unidentified person’ on Thursday (June 27) morning in a sick condition. When spoken to directly on Friday (June 28) afternoon, he said that the BSF had caught him from his home and pushed him into Bangladesh. However, he could not say exactly through which border he was pushed into Bangladesh. It is believed that he may have been pushed into Bangladesh through some area of the Joypurhat-Hili border.
Jiban Dey said he wanted to return to India. His speech was slurred and he reportedly had injuries to his head, hands and various parts of his body.
When asked about this, Joypurhat 20 BGB commander Lt. Col. Arifur Daula said, “We do not have any information about any such push-in so far, we are investigating.”
