The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has returned five Bangladeshis-mostly women and children-on charges of illegally entering India through the Joypurhat border.
According to Subedar Alauddin, Commander of Kaya 20 BGB Camp, the individuals were spotted on Tuesday night in a rain-soaked condition near Sub-Pillar 54S of Main Pillar No. 271, about 350 yards from the road. The BGB then contacted the BSF.
Following communication and an agreement between the two border forces, the five individuals were taken into custody at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday amid heavy rain. They are expected to be handed over to Panchbibi Police Station later.
The detained individuals have been identified as Murad Morol (34), son of Padhan Morol of Dakshin Tutu Para village in Khulna district; his wife Sagarika Begum (25); and their children Ramzan Morol (8), Muskan (5), and Amena (2).
Ariful Daula of Kaya 20 BGB stated that on the night of August 12, BGB personnel observed five individuals-including women and children-roaming near Sub-Pillar 54S of Main Pillar No. 281 in the Kaya Seamari area. The BSF was contacted at that time. After coordination, the individuals were formally taken into custody at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Arifur Daula, PSSCG, Commander of Joypurhat BGB-11, stated that initial interrogation revealed the group had been residing in India for a long time.
They reportedly worked as daily wage laborers at a scrap shop in the state of Kerala since 2020. According to the BGB, the BSF suddenly returned them to Bangladesh.
The detainees will be handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Department through the proper legal channels.
