British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, ahead of his upcoming official visit to the United Kingdom.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Cooke congratulated Prof. Yunus on being selected for the prestigious King Charles Harmony Award.
“It is a great honour,” Prof. Yunus said in response.

The Chief Adviser is scheduled to depart for the UK on June 9 and return on June 13. During the visit, he is expected to hold talks with senior British officials.

Their discussion covered a wide range of mutual interests, including trade and investment, aviation cooperation, migration, and efforts by the interim government to recover stolen assets. They also touched on political reforms and the current political landscape in Bangladesh.

Prof. Yunus briefed the High Commissioner on the ongoing second round of dialogue between the National Consensus Commission and political parties, which is expected to conclude soon. He also expressed interest in receiving technical support from the UK, including training from British researchers, to strengthen Bangladesh’s ocean research capabilities.

Also present at the meeting were Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy to the Chief Adviser; Lamiya Morshed, SDG Coordinator; and James Goldman, Deputy British High Commissioner.
