After huge confusion and dramatic steps, the body of journalist Brishti Khatun alias Avishruti Shastri who was burnt to death in the devastating fire on Bailey Road on February 29, has been handed over to her family after 11 days since the incident.
Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Jahangir Hossain Matubbar handed over the body to her father Shablul Alam Sabuj Sheikh around 3 pm on Monday.
He said that identity was confirmed through DNA profiling on Sunday following the court’s order.
The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test was conducted at the forensic lad of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.
Through the DNP profiling, it has been confirmed that her real father is Shablul Alam Sabuj Sheikh and mother is Beauty Khatun, according to the CID forensic department.
Earlier, DNA samples were collected from Sabuj Sheikh and Beauty Khatun who claimed to be her parents. At the same time, DNA samples were also collected from the body of the deceased.
It has been confirmed in the lab that Brishti’s father is Sabuj Sheikh and mother is Beauty Khatun.
In this regard, the victim father Sabuj Sheikh said the truth has been established today: “I am her father, I thank Allah thousands and millions.”
“I will take it to my village home.
There, she will be buried in the family cemetery with a Janaza according to Islamic Shari’a,” he added. Brishty Khatun was the eldest among his three daughters.
