Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) organised a day-long workshop on “Public Procurement Rules 2025 (PPR 2025)” on Monday, at its conference room in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka. Planning Ministry’s Planning Division Secretary SM Shakil Akhtar attended as chief guest, while BRDB Director General and Additional Secretary Sardar Mohammad Keramat Ali chaired the event, says a press release.
Participants included representatives from various ministries, departments, agencies, and BRDB’s directors, assistant directors, assistant rural development officers, and accountants. Planning Commission Joint Chief (Communication Wing, Physical Infrastructure Division) Md Nasimur Rahman Sharif presented the keynote paper on key topics.
Chief guest Shakil Akhtar emphasised breaking the poverty trap, noting that 33per cent of the population still lives below the poverty line. “Proper project implementation by field-level institutions like BRDB is crucial to lift the poor from the margins,” he said.
In his speech, BRDB DG Keramat Ali highlighted that the Public Procurement Act 2003 addressed financial mismanagement, followed by PPR 2015 for transparency, good governance, and efficiency in government procurement. PPR 2025 mandates e-GP, promotes competition, sustainable procurement, support for SMEs and women entrepreneurs, recognises services as a separate category, and aligns with international standards.
