The two-day International Biotechnology Conference 2025 (IBC 2025) concluded on Saturday at BRAC University’s Merul Badda campus, bringing together over 1,000 participants from Bangladesh and abroad.
Organized by the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences under the School of Data and Sciences, the conference focused on how biotechnology can address global challenges in healthcare, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
Professor Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, delivered the keynote, urging the use of intelligence, resilience, and purpose to overcome research infrastructure gaps.
Professor Mahbubul Alam Majumdar emphasized the growing intersection of biology, technology, and data in solving real-world problems. Registrar Dr. David Dowland reaffirmed BRAC University’s mission to promote impactful research and combat brain drain.
The event featured two notable plenary sessions: one on the life journeys of biotech researchers, and another on turning lab ideas into biotech startups. Over 100 presentations were delivered across 14 thematic tracks, alongside poster exhibitions by young researchers.
The conference wrapped up with a cultural program and awards recognizing excellence in biotechnology. Guests at the closing included Dr. Md. Sagir Ahmed, Director General of the National Institute of Biotechnology, and Dr. Md. Firoze H. Haque of BRAC University.
