The 38th Annual International Conference of the Bangladesh Society of Microbiologists (BSM) was held at BRAC University on December 28-29, 2024. This two-day event brought together over 600 participants from 53 Bangladeshi institutions and 10 international ones, including scientists, researchers, academics, veterinarians, clinicians, and students. The conference featured 15 sessions and 11 panel discussions, focusing on advancements in microbiology and related fields.
The inaugural ceremony took place at BRAC University’s auditorium, with Professor M. Aminul Islam, Hon’ble Special Assistant at the Ministry of Education, as the Chief Guest. The event also featured speeches from Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, and Professor Syed Mahfuzul Aziz, Pro Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Munirul Alam, President of BSM, and Dr. M. Manjurul Karim, General Secretary of BSM, also attended.
During the opening address, Professor M. Mahboob Hossain, Conference Organizing Committee Chair, and Dr. M. Manjurul Karim highlighted the importance of the conference in advancing microbiology in Bangladesh. Professor M. Aminul Islam emphasized the need for collaboration and innovation in tackling global health challenges. Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar underscored the role of collective effort in advancing scientific knowledge.

A key highlight was the conferral of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Professor Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Science, for his outstanding contributions to microbiology.
The conference served as a platform for discussing the latest developments in microbiology and fostering collaboration between global experts.
