Business Report :

BRAC Bank Agent Banking has extended its reach to the marginalized communities of Chattogram Hill Tracts, offering essential banking services to remote areas, a press release said.
As part of its ongoing commitment to financial inclusion, the bank organized multiple ‘Uthan Boithok’ financial awareness sessions in the hilly district of Khagrachari. These initiatives aim to educate tribal communities on financial literacy and integrate them into the formal banking system.
The Agent Banking Team engaged with residents of Merung Union in Dighinala Upazila, Khagrachari District, conducting awareness sessions to highlight the benefits of legal remittance channels and overall financial well-being.
Merung Union, located at the border of Khagrachari and Rangamati districts, faces significant geographical barriers that limit access to banking and financial services. Due to underdevelopment in the region, many young individuals seek employment opportunities abroad, which has a social impact on the local communities.
The sessions were led by Kafil Uddin, Team Lead of Agent Banking; Dibakar Majumdar, Agent Relationship Officer of Agent Banking; and Md. Yousuf Hossain, Agent of BRAC Bank Dighinala Agent Banking Outlet. The discussions covered essential topics such as opening bank accounts, the importance of savings, modern banking services, secure remittance transfers, and the need for financial literacy.
Nazmur Rahim, Head of Alternate Banking Channels at BRAC Bank, stated, “We deeply appreciate the significant contributions of the people from this underserved region to the national economy. Our goal is to provide convenient and secure access to modern banking services, ensuring financial inclusion even in the most remote communities. We believe that as more individuals open bank accounts and develop a savings habit through our Agent Banking network, they will become part of the mainstream financial system.”
With rapid expansion, BRAC Bank’s alternative banking channel now serves over 400,000 previously unbanked individuals, mainly in rural and semi-urban areas, achieving an industry-leading 80 per cent rural penetration. From account opening to cash withdrawals, loans to EMI payments, remittances, and utility bill settlements, Agent Banking outlets have become an essential financial hub for local residents.
