A senior official of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) was threatened with a firearm and obstructed from carrying out his official duties in a shocking incident that occurred at the BPDB Procurement Department office in Motijheel on Tuesday. According to a press release issued by BPDB on Wednesday, the incident took place around 3:30 PM on the 10th floor.
The statement reveals that a man named Anis forcibly entered the office of Engineer Md. Nannu Mia, Director of the Procurement Department. Anis allegedly attempted to pressure the director not to submit a report as part of an inquiry committee investigating a company named S. Commercial Enterprises.
During the confrontation, Anis reportedly pulled out a pistol and threatened to shoot the official, while using abusive and inaudible language. He claimed he was acting on behalf of Md. Saiful Islam, a representative of the aforementioned company. Witnesses said two other individuals were involved in the incident.
One of them, identified as Khaled from M/s Technotech Company, and another masked individual were seen standing outside the director’s office during the event. A general diary (GD) was filed on Tuesday evening at Motijheel Police Station regarding the matter.
