This day is also observed internationally across the globe. Every year on August 19, this day is celebrated worldwide to honour creativity and people’s interest in the art of photography. On Tuesday, under the slogan “Let the spirit of the July Revolution spread worldwide through the courageous images of Bangladesh’s photojournalists,” the Bangladesh Photojournalists Association (BPA) organised a rally and a discussion session at their own auditorium in the Paltan area on the occasion of World Photography Day 2025.
The aim of this day is to spread the spirit of the July Revolution globally through the courageous images captured by photojournalists. Additionally, photography is used to showcase various aspects of human life, social realities, and diverse cultures.
In the capital city, the Bangladesh Photojournalists Association held a rally and a discussion session at their own auditorium. Various programmes have also been organised in Dhaka and other parts of the country.
The Bangladesh Photography Society, media and journalism departments of several universities and multiple art centers have arranged day-long photo exhibitions, discussion sessions, and workshops. Through the brave images of Bangladesh’s photojournalists, the spirit of the July Revolution is hoped to reach audiences worldwide.
Experts believe that advancements in digital technology have introduced a new dimension to the art of photography.
Young people are now capturing stunning images using smartphones and drones, impressing the world.
Such initiatives are expected to further encourage the creativity of young photographers, according to those involved.
It is noteworthy that on August 19, 1839, the French government officially recognized the photographic process for the first time.
Since then, this day has been observed worldwide as ‘International Photography Day.’
