A strategic coordination meeting on youth engagement and skills development was held at the Vice Chancellor’s conference room of Bangladesh Open University (BOU), Gazipur main campus. The meeting focused on the joint project between BOU and UNICEF, aimed at transforming unskilled youth of Bangladesh into skilled citizens.

The event was graced by Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of BOU, as the chief gues.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the crucial role BOU must play in educating and equipping out-of-school youth across the country with practical skills. He stated, “We must consider digital transformation, media communication, and effective outreach strategies with utmost importance,” press release.

He also said that certified but unskilled graduates often become a burden on society. “Across the country, there are thousands of Honours and Masters degree holders, yet it’s difficult to find skilled, job-ready individuals,” he noted. In response to this challenge, BOU and UNICEF are jointly launching a large-scale initiative to develop skilled citizens.

During the program, the strategic concept note titled “Empowering Youth as Skilled Citizens” was presented. The Vice Chancellor thanked UNICEF for its support and added, “BOU has an extensive network across the country. We want to ensure that students from even the remotest areas can benefit from UNICEF’s technical support and become skilled.”
