Bosnian Embassy in Dhaka aims to ease visa issues

The Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, based in New Delhi, in a significant move to deepen diplomatic ties and support Bangladeshi citizens, organized a day-long consular camp at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Sunday.
The initiative aims to offer direct visa facilitation and consular assistance to Bangladeshi nationals who plan to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, easing the growing challenges faced by many in accessing foreign embassies in India.
The camp was inaugurated and conducted by Haris Hrle, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Bangladesh.
The event marks a notable diplomatic gesture and comes at a time when Bangladeshi citizens are encountering significant hurdles in obtaining Indian visas, which are often required to travel to New Delhi for consular services with many foreign embassies.
“This initiative reflects Bosnia and Herzegovina’s strong commitment to fostering closer people-to-people ties with Bangladesh,” Ambassador Hrle said.
“We believe direct engagement and support will only enhance our bilateral relationship and help Bangladeshis access consular services with more ease and dignity,” he said.
The camp provided a wide range of consular services, including visa application facilitation, document legalization, and other administrative support.
This step not only simplifies procedures for Bangladeshi citizens but also reduces the need for travel to India, which has become increasingly difficult in recent times. Following the change of government in Bangladesh last year, Indian visa centers in Dhaka and elsewhere reportedly stopped issuing visas to Bangladeshi nationals, causing widespread disruption for those who needed to travel to India for consular purposes.
As a result, accessing foreign embassies located in New Delhi has become a logistical and financial burden for many Bangladeshis. Recently, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain commented on the issue, stating that the issuance of visas is solely a sovereign decision of each country.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the current government, led by Dr Yunus, has been actively urging Indian authorities to ease the visa issuance process for Bangladeshi citizens.
