Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday reassured the nation that Bangladesh’s borders remain fully secure, despite recent concerns over alleged push-ins by India’s Border Security Force (BSF).
“Our borders are completely safe, and there is no reason for alarm,” he told reporters following the passing-out parade of the 14th batch of Deputy Jail Superintendents and the 62nd batch of male and female prison guards at the Rajshahi Prison Training Centre.
Responding to reports of BSF pushing individuals into Bangladesh, the adviser said Indian authorities have been urged to follow proper procedures when dealing with individuals identified as Bangladeshi nationals.
“If any of them are indeed our citizens, we are ready to take them back through official channels—just as we repatriate illegal foreign nationals, including Indians, from our side. This issue is being handled diplomatically, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively engaged in communication with India,” he added.
Turning to domestic issues, the Home Adviser said that all law enforcement agencies have been instructed to ensure peaceful and secure celebrations of Eid-ul-Azha across the country.
Addressing concerns about market stability, he claimed that essential commodity prices remain within manageable levels. “Rice production has risen by 1.5 million tonnes, and potato prices have also seen a noticeable decline,” he noted.
Several senior officials, including Inspector General of Prisons Brig. Gen. Syed Mohammad Motaher Hossain, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Khondkar Azim Ahmed, DIG of Rajshahi Range Mohammad Shahjahan, RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufiyan, Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar, SP Farzana Islam, and Rajshahi Jail Training Center Commandant Mohammad Kamal Hossain, attended the event.
