Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday reassured the public that Bangladesh’s borders are fully secure and under control amid growing concerns over reported push-in incidents by India’s Border Security Force (BSF).

Speaking at a media briefing in Rajshahi, the adviser emphasized that there is no compromise on national security and that the government is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to address cross-border issues.

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday assured the nation that Bangladesh’s borders with India remain fully safe and protected, despite recent concerns over push-in incidents by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

“There has been no lack of safety—our people and our borders are completely secure,” the adviser said during a media briefing held after attending the passing-out parade of the 14th batch of Deputy Jail Superintendents and the 62nd batch of male and female prison guards at the Rajshahi Prison Training Centre.
Addressing ongoing reports of BSF push-ins, Lt Gen Chowdhury stated that Bangladesh has formally asked India to ensure any Bangladeshi nationals are repatriated through legal and diplomatic channels.

“We are ready to take back any Bangladeshi citizens following the proper process, just as we send back foreign nationals, including Indians, who are staying illegally in Bangladesh. The matter has been discussed at various levels, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in regular contact with Indian counterparts,” he said.

While the government maintains that the borders are secure, there have been repeated incidents of unauthorized entry, leading to a new wave of diplomatic tension between the two countries. Despite protests lodged by Bangladesh, push-ins by BSF continue.

Regarding upcoming Eid-ul-Azha celebrations, the Home Adviser said all law enforcement agencies have been instructed to ensure the festivities proceed peacefully and without disruption. He also claimed that market conditions remain stable, highlighting a 15-lakh-tonne increase in paddy production and a noticeable drop in potato prices, contributing to manageable commodity costs. Among those present at the event were Inspector General of Prisons Brig. Gen. Syed Mohammad Motaher Hossain, Divisional Commissioner Khondkar Azim Ahmed, DIG of Rajshahi Range Mohammad Shahjahan, RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufiyan, Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar, Superintendent of Police Farzana Islam, and Rajshahi Jail Training Center Commandant Mohammad Kamal Hossain.
