Body of missing groom recovered from river

Dead body of a missing groom namely Mirazul Islam Arif (24) recovered from Sandhaya River on Saturday afternoon after he went on river for taking bath following his ‘gaye-holud’ festival of his marriage on Friday noon in Wazirpur upazila of Barishal district.
Arif was a resident of Sultan Market area of Kashimpur police station in Gazipur and son of Mintu Khan. Arif is a driver at Square Textiles. Inspector Touhiduzzaman of Wzirpur Police Station said that the young man went missing on Friday (May 23) around 1:15 PM afternoon.
He said that the missing-Arif came to Gabbari area of Wazirpur on Thursday night with his family to marry his distant cousin.
At around 9 am on Friday morning, he had registered marriage with Nipa Akhtar, daughter of deceased Nasiruddin of Gabbari area. After that, at the beginning of the wedding ceremony, that the gaye-holud (pasting turmeric) is arranged. Later, around 12:30 noon, Arif along with his two brothers went down to bathe in Chatalbari area of Sandhya river.
At this time, the two brothers started drifting away due to the current, and the locals rescued the two brothers. But the groom Arif got lost away in the current. The team leader of the Barishal Naval Fire Service Nazrul Islam said divers operated drives to rescue or recover the missing the newly married groom was swept away by the current.
Zafar Ali, officer in charge of Wazirpur police station, said on Saturday afternoon the dead body was recovered from Chaltabunia area of the river under the upazila and sent to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital
