Foreign minister Hasan Mahmud said that the body of lawmaker Anwarul Azim was not found in the flat where he was killed in Kolkata India.
He, however, said that the investigation is going on and law enforcers have arrested the perpetrators including the ringleader the killing of Azim, a Bangladeshi parliamentarian from Jhenaidah-4 constituency.
“It is very harrowing, regretful and unwanted. The Bangladesh High Commission in Kolkata informed that Kolkata police did not find the body of Azim in the flat where it was presumed that he was killed there,” Hasan Mahmud said in reply to a question of the journalists after an event in Dhaka University on Wednesday.
“Some of the perpetrators have been arrested and investigation is under process,” he said.
The further informed that Bangladesh mission in Kolkata is keeping eyes on the issue and keeping communication with the Kolkata police.
“The matter is under investigation. It would not be desirable to speak more about it. Our home ministry is in touch with the whole issue,” he said.
In reply to another question relating to the US sanction on former Army Chief Aziz Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, also a joint general secretary of Awami League, said, “The US sanction has stated his personal responsibility.
It is not an institutional matter,”
While addressing the 24th National Renewable Energy Conference as the Chief Guest at the Senate Bhaban, he said, “Bangladesh is not a high carbon emitting country. Rather we are the victim of climate changed caused mainly the carbon emission from industrial countries.”
He stated that Bangladesh has no compulsion to reduce the carbon emission but the government has taken initiative to introduce 40 per cent green energy by 2041.
He also urged all to play active role to protect the environment by using green energy and called upon all to use solar, wind and hydro-power as these sources do not emit carbon.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor D ASM Maksud Kamal presided over the event.
