The identities of eight Bangladeshis who died in a boat sank off the coast of Tunisia in the Mediterranean Sea have been identified.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya has confirmed the death and identity of these Bangladeshis from various sources.

It is known that there were about 52 immigrants in that boat. They were going to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea. At least 9 people were killed in a boat fire on February 15. The other deceased was a Pakistani national.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya has identified the eight Bangladeshis who were killed. They are Nayan Biswas of Kadambari of Rajoir upazila of Madaripur, Mamun Sekh and Sajal of Kalia of upazila, Kazi Sajib of Bajitpur Newbazar of upazila and Kaiser of Kabirajpur of upazila, Ragdeer Rifat of Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj, Russell of Dignagar of upazila and Imrul Kayes alias Apan of Gangarampur Gohala. It is known that the Tunisian Navy has rescued 26 other Bangladeshis from the boat. One of them is in critical condition.

According to Bangladesh Embassy sources, the boat with a total of 52 immigrants from different countries including Bangladesh caught fire in the sea on its way to Europe from the coast of Libya.

Later on, they were in contact with the Tunisian authorities, the International Red Crescent Society and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the rescue and necessary treatment of the Bangladeshis involved in the accident.
