BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman expressed hope for a credible national election in Bangladesh, allowing people to choose their leaders for the next five years.

Speaking virtually at four workshops organized by BNP’s Kushtia, Magura, Chuadanga, and Meherpur district units, he emphasized that the country’s issues can only be resolved through a proper election system and accountable leadership.

Tarique stressed that power must be given to responsible and answerable individuals elected through a fair process. He called for a free, peaceful election where people can vote without obstacles. He noted that discussions on state reforms are gaining momentum but highlighted the need to address key issues like employment, commodity prices, and challenges in education, health, and agriculture.

Drawing from his experience in the UK, Tarique underscored the importance of a strong electoral system at all levels, insisting elections must take place on time without compromise. He asserted that accountability would follow if elections were conducted properly.

He also pointed out that BNP leaders and workers have faced killings, enforced disappearances, and repression for advocating political rights and free expression. As the country’s largest political party, BNP must commit to implementing its 31-point reform plan to serve the people effectively.
Tarique urged party members to resist any attempts to misguide them and reaffirmed BNP’s dedication to state reforms, which were crafted in consultation with other democratic forces. He noted that government reform commission reports often align with BNP’s 31-point proposal, proving their focus on national interest.
