BNP urges govt to take action against nationwide unrest

The BNP has expressed deep concern over the ongoing nationwide vandalism and arson, urging the interim government to take strict measures to restore law and order.

In a statement on Friday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi warned that failure to control the situation could endanger national stability. He emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent anarchy and demonstrate effective governance.

The BNP blamed the provocative actions of the ousted autocrat and his associates for fueling public outrage, which has led to the destruction of symbols associated with the fallen regime.

Rizvi noted widespread frustration over the interim government’s failure to bring these figures to justice over the past six months, which has encouraged people to take matters into their own hands.

He stressed that restoring the rule of law, ensuring justice for victims of the July-August student uprising, and removing fascist influences from institutions should be the government’s top priorities. However, little progress has been made, raising doubts about the government’s ability to meet public expectations.

Rizvi also highlighted growing economic hardships, urging the government to curb market syndicates and resolve politically motivated cases against democracy activists. He called for urgent electoral reforms to establish an elected government and restore democratic rights.

He further emphasized that dismantling symbols of fascism alone is insufficient; ideological politics promoting anti-fascist values and national unity must be strengthened.

The government must prove its capability to control the situation; otherwise, extreme anarchists and anti-democratic forces could resurface.

Rizvi warned that the current signs of instability indicate an urgent need for effective governance and political cooperation to uphold democracy and ensure national stability.
