The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) announced on Wednesday a five-day programme, including a rally and a discussion, to commemorate its 46th founding anniversary on 1st September.
The announcement was made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a press conference held at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, following a joint meeting with the party’s associate bodies.
The BNP’s anniversary celebrations will span from 31st August to 4th September, featuring various activities across the country. On 31st August, discussions will be held in cities, districts, and upazilas.
On the morning of 1st September, the party flag will be hoisted at the Nayapaltan central office and all BNP offices nationwide. Additionally, party leaders will offer Fateha and lay wreaths at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in the capital at 11:00 am. In the evening, Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) will organise a cultural programme at the Central Shaheed Minar.
On 2nd September, rallies will be held in all cities, districts, and upazilas. On 3rd September, fish fries will be released into water bodies across the country, and on 4th September, a tree plantation campaign will be launched nationwide.
In addition to the central programmes, BNP’s associate bodies and their units across the country will observe the anniversary with their own events. To mark the occasion, BNP and its affiliate organisations will also publish posters and special supplements.
Senior BNP leaders, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General, and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne, Joint Secretary General, were present at the press conference.
The BNP was founded on 1st September 1978 by Ziaur Rahman, with a 19-point programme aimed at building a self-reliant Bangladesh. The party has governed the country for multiple terms.
