‘BNP ready to thwart any anti-national conspiracy’
Chattogram Bureau :
BNP is prepared to resist any future anti-national conspiracies, said Ershad Ullah, convener of the Chattogram Metropolitan BNP. He made the remarks while addressing a meeting with journalists at the July-Revolution Memorial Hall of the Chattogram Press Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Highlighting the party’s past struggles and street movements, Ershad Ullah stated that the BNP will continue to stand against any force that threatens the sovereignty and democratic process of the country. “Just as we took to the streets during the July-August movement, we remain vigilant against conspiracies by defeated forces,” he said. He warned that a segment of the interim government may be attempting to delay the national elections to cling to power, which could pose a long-term threat to democratic governance and offer a pathway for the fallen Awami League to re-enter politics.
Ershad Ullah also accused past governments of harming the country’s reputation, turning Bangladesh into a fragile, debt-dependent state.
He claimed that those same forces are now trying to portray the country internationally as either militant or communal in nature.
Speaking at the event, Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Member Secretary Nazimur Rahman said the country is still suffering from the effects of 15 years of what he called “misrule” under a “fugitive dictatorship.” He stressed the importance of nationalist unity to protect the country’s independence and values.
The event was presided over by Press Club Member Secretary Zahidul Karim Kochi. Other notable speakers included Chattogram Journalists Union General Secretary Saleh Noman, Baishakhi TV Bureau Chief Golam Maula Murad, and News Garden Editor Kamrul Huda, who began the program with a recitation from the Quran.
Chattogram Metropolitan BNP leaders MA Aziz, Advocate Abdus Sattar, Syed Azam Uddin, SM Saiful Alam, and others also addressed the gathering. Prominent journalists and former local councilors were in attendance.
