NN Online:

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Tuesday, submitted 62-point proposals to the Constitutional Reform Commission, advocating for retaining the roles of vice president and deputy prime minister.

The proposals also call for limiting the prime minister’s tenure to two consecutive terms, establishing a second parliamentary chamber, and introducing provisions for referendums.

A two-member delegation, led by the party’s Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, submitted a written copy of the proposals to Professor Ali Riaz, the head of the Constitutional Reform Commission, at the Parliament building.

Speaking to reporters, Salahuddin explained that the proposals were submitted to ensure a balance of power in line with the desire of the people.

He said, “We have made proposals concerning the judiciary, as well as recommendations for the establishment of a Vice President and a Deputy Prime Minister. We have addressed all aspects relating to the executive, judiciary, and legislative branches to ensure a balance of power.”

The BNP leader said the Constitutional Reform Commission would present the proposals to the government for its consideration.

He hoped that their proposals could be implemented through the discussions with the political parties.
