Comparing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to a phoenix, the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that those who conspired against the BNP were themselves forced to flee.
He made the remarks on Saturday afternoon while inaugurating the tri-annual council of Kishoreganj district BNP at the old stadium in the town.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Many speak about BNP now. But BNP is like a phoenix. Numerous conspiracies were hatched to break this party, but none succeeded. Rather, the conspirators themselves had to flee.”
The conference, being held after nine long years, began with the hoisting of the national and party flags to the tune of the national anthem, followed by the performance of the party song.
From early in the morning, leaders and activists from different upazilas of the district gathered at the stadium in processions. The event began in a festive atmosphere with the presence of several thousand workers.
BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to join the conference virtually as the chief guest.
Today’s conference was presided over by district BNP President Md. Shariful Alam and conducted by General Secretary Md. Majharul Islam.
Special guest at the event was BNP Chairperson’s Advisor and valiant freedom fighter Abdus Salam. The keynote speech was delivered by Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel.
In the second session of the conference, from 4 pm to 8 pm, 2,010 councillors will cast their votes to elect the new president and general secretary of Kishoreganj district BNP. Through this election, the new leadership of the district BNP will be formed.
