BNP Leader’s Wife Hacked to Death in Tangail
Tangail correspondent :
Unidentified assailants hacked to death the wife of a local BNP leader in Tangail Sadar upazila on Tuesday night after failing to locate him.
The victim, Lili Akhter, was the wife of Anisur Rahman Uttom, senior joint convener of BNP’s Magra Union unit. The incident occurred around 9:30pm at their bakery, Leon Bakery, in Kuijbari Bazar.
Witnesses said 4–5 masked attackers entered the bakery looking for Uttom. As he was not present, they brutally attacked Lili with sharp weapons. Locals rushed her to Tangail General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
BNP leaders alleged it was a targeted attack meant for Uttom. As he was delayed that evening, his wife had gone to check the factory. The attackers, lying in wait, assaulted her instead.
Tangail Sadar BNP General Secretary Abdur Rouf termed the murder “premeditated” and demanded justice. Police said the body was sent for autopsy and that an investigation is underway.
