Azad Hossain Khokon, a BNP leader from Ishwardi, passed away on Tuesday night at his home in Kacharipara, Ishwardi. He was 52 years old. Khokon had recently been released after serving five years in prison in connection with the attack case on Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s train fleet.

Khokon, the son of Peer Ali Mondal of Kacharipara, had been sentenced to life imprisonment in the case but was acquitted along with 47 other activists on February 5. He had been released on September 12 last year following a High Court order. His sudden demise occurred at around 10:30 pm. His death has been met with deep sorrow among BNP leaders and activists.

BNP Chairperson’s adviser and Pabna district BNP convener Habibur Rahman Habib, former BNP president and municipal mayor Mokhlesur Rahman Bablu, and former general secretary of the municipality Zakaria Pintu expressed profound grief and mourning.

In a condolence message, Habibur Rahman Habib stated that Azad Hossain Khokon had dedicated his life to the BNP and endured imprisonment for five years in what he described as a false case. The BNP leaders have called for prayers and support for Khokon’s bereaved family, reflecting on his contributions to the party and his unwavering political stance.
