BNP leader Annie sent to jail after remand

A court in Dhaka has sent BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and two others to jail in a case filed over vandalising Bangladesh Television building in Rampura of the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ataullah on Saturday passed the order as the investigation officer of the case, inspector Mohammad Yasin Shikder of Khilgaon Zonal Team, produced them before the court after seven days remand. He filed a plea to keep them in jail.

The other accused are — Ghulam Dastgir Prince and ABM Khalid Hasan.

Earlier, on July 27, a Dhaka court granted a seven-day remand to BNP leader Annie and three others arrested in the case filed with Rampura police station in the capital over sabotage.

According to the case documents, around three to four thousand unruly people, allegedly incited by BNP-Jamaat leaders, rammed the gate of BTV, vandalized many vehicles, rooms, and machinery on July 18.
The anarchy caused a loss of Tk 50 crore to the state-owned television channel.
