The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami have strongly condemned a violent attack on the Nationalist Citizens’ Party’s (NCP) ‘March to Gopalganj’ rally, allegedly carried out by supporters of the now-banned Awami League.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the assault – which reportedly involved crude bomb blasts, arson of police and administrative vehicles, and injuries to officers – as evidence of fascist forces trying to destabilise the country following the Awami League’s fall. He warned that the worsening law and order situation could derail democratic progress and demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman also condemned the incident, questioning the absence of police despite the NCP’s prior discussions with the administration. Jamaat Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar labelled the attack a “terrorist assault” and said remnants of the previous regime were still conspiring to destabilise the nation.

Both leaders stressed that Gopalganj is part of Bangladesh and political activities there must be protected equally. They urged the interim government to uphold law and order, prosecute those responsible, and ensure such acts of political violence do not recur.
