The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has taken decisive steps to enhance its anti-government campaign by appointing new convening committees for its city units in Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Chattogram, and Barishal.
Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced these appointments in a statement issued on Sunday.
The new appointments include Rafiqul Alam Mojnu as convener and Tanvir Ahmed Robin as member secretary for Dhaka South City unit, Saiful Alam Nirob as convener and Aminul Haque as member secretary for Dhaka North City unit, Ershadullah as convener and Nazimuddin Rahman as member secretary for Chattogram City unit, and Moniruzzaman Khan Faruk as convener, Ziauddin Sikder Zia as member secretary, and Afroza Khanom Nasreen as joint convener for Barishal City unit.
Sources within the party indicated that these appointments are part of a broader initiative aimed at revitalizing and strengthening their grassroots movement.
Mojnu and Tanvir have previously held positions within the Dhaka South City unit, with Nirob serving as the former president of BNP’s youth wing, Jubo Dal.
Ershadullah has a background as vice-president of the Chattogram City unit, and Nazimur Rahman has led the district unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
The newly appointed leaders have been tasked with forming the full committees of their respective city units within three months.
This restructuring follows the dissolution of several previous committees on June 14, including those of Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Chattogram, and Barishal city units, as well as the central committee of Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal, led by President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and General Secretary Abdul Monayem Munna.
Insiders from the party hinted at further reshuffling of committees within its associated bodies in the near future, as part of a strategic effort to strengthen their presence and activities in the streets.
