Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday lambasted the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), urging them to feel ashamed of the recent remarks made by the Pakistani Prime Minister regarding Bangladesh’s development.
Quader’s scathing remarks came during a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of Shaheed Sheikh Jamal on what would have been his 71st birthday. Speaking to reporters gathered at Banani graveyard, he expressed his disdain for BNP leaders’ purported inability to acknowledge Bangladesh’s progress.
“BNP leaders cannot witness the country’s development as they see through colored lenses,” Quader exclaimed, highlighting what he perceives as a deliberate blindness to the nation’s advancement. He further emphasised BNP’s historical ties with Pakistan, insinuating that their allegiance clouds their judgment regarding Bangladesh’s achievements.
Drawing a stark contrast, Quader pointed out that while Pakistan acknowledges Bangladesh’s progress, BNP remains steadfastly ignorant. He underscored the transformation in Pakistan’s perception of Bangladesh, noting that the former once regarded the latter as a burden but now feels ashamed when comparing their respective trajectories.
Responding to comments made by Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader regarding pressure to participate in national polls, Obaidul Quader dismissed the notion, asserting that Jatiya Party’s inception was marred by coercion rather than democratic principles. He further challenged GM Quader to elucidate the circumstances surrounding their electoral participation.
Touching upon the tragic events of August 15, 1975, Quader denounced the assassination of the Bangabandhu family as a sinister plot to eradicate their legacy from Bangladesh. He attributed the ensuing political turmoil and conspiracies to the Mostaq-Zia regime’s patronage of the perpetrators.
In contrast, Quader extolled the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, crediting her with ushering in an era of stability, development, and progress. He lauded the Awami League government’s unwavering commitment to national advancement, emphasizing the sustained momentum of development initiatives under their stewardship.
The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by prominent Awami League figures, including Presidium Member Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Dr. Dipu Moni, among others.
Quader concluded the event by paying homage to Sheikh Jamal on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League, symbolising a collective commitment to preserving the legacy of Bangladesh’s martyrs and advancing the nation’s prosperity.
