A discussion meeting titled ’71’s great freedom fighter and martyr Zia for establishing democracy’ was held at the Banquet Hall of Khulna Press Club on Saturday.
The meeting, jointly organised by the metropolitan and district Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal, was presided over by Khulna Metropolitan Branch President Sheikh Alamgir Hossain.
BNP National Standing Committee Member Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram was present as the chief guest at the event.
The main speaker was Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal President Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat. BNP National Executive Committee Information Secretary Azizul Bari Helal, Khulna Metropolitan BNP President Advocate S. M. Shafiqul Alam Mona, District BNP Convener Md. Moniruzzaman Montu, Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin and other leaders.
The speakers said that establishing democracy was one of our goals after achieving independence. But democracy has been repeatedly disrupted. Currently, democracy is in a critical state. We believe that only a participatory election can overcome the crisis.
The speakers at the meeting said that after the mass uprising in 2012, the nation hoped that a democratic trend would be established. But still, various quarters are conspiring about the elections.
They also said that BNP is calling on all political parties to participate in the next elections so that a festive and acceptable election is possible.
The speakers accused the current government of ‘fascist and mafia’ rule and said that no more dummy elections like the Hasina era will be held in the country. The people of the country will not accept such elections again.
