The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Tuesday halted the nomination of Kamal Zaman Mollah for Madaripur-1 due to protests and a road blockade.
Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi conveyed the announcement in a media statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, “Due to unavoidable reasons, the nomination for Madaripur-1 and the selected candidate’s name have been suspended.”
“The names of party nominees for 237 parliamentary seats were announced, including Mollah for Madaripur-1 (Shibchar Upazila) at a media briefing on Monday.
The Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway set tyres ablaze by supporters, as result severe traffic congestion for nearly two hours and the blockade was lifted after police and Army intervention, and traffic resumed after 9pm.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir unveiled on Monday the list of 237 candidates at a press briefing at Gulshan, confirming Molla’s nomination.
