The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formed a high-level reception committee to organise a formal welcome for its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who is scheduled to return to Dhaka on December 25 after nearly 18 years.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has been named convener of the committee, while Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi will serve as its member secretary.
Confirming the decision, BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said party leaders, activists, supporters and members of the public are eagerly awaiting Tarique Rahman’s return.
The reception committee comprises the party’s 10 divisional organising secretaries, presidents and general secretaries of BNP-affiliated bodies, as well as the conveners and member secretaries of the Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units.
The committee held its first meeting on Tuesday afternoon to finalise preparations, following a joint meeting of the BNP and its affiliated organisations at the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan last Monday.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam has been appointed Chief Security Officer to oversee overall security arrangements for former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The appointment was confirmed in a press release signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday.
