The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has filed a case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, three former Chief Election Commissioners (CECs), and 21 others, accusing them of manipulating national elections held during the Awami League’s tenure. A total of 24 individuals have been named in the complaint, including former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and four former Inspectors General of Police (IGPs).
The case was filed on Sunday (22 June) around 11:15 AM at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in Dhaka by BNP’s National Executive Committee member Md Salah Uddin Khan. The case has been recorded as Case No. 11.
Among the accused are: Former CECs: Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, K.M. Nurul Huda, and Kazi Habibul Awal, Former Election Commissioners: Md Abdul Mobarak, Abu Hanif, Brig Gen (retd.) Javed Ali, Shah Nawaz, Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam, Brig Gen (retd.) Ahsan Habib, Alamgir Hossain, and Anisur Rahman, Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Former IGPs: Hasan Mahmud Khandker, Benazir Ahmed, A.K.M. Shahidul Hoque, and Javed Patwary, Former NSI Chief, Former DGFI Chief (names not disclosed), Former SB Chief Monirul Islam, Former DIG Syed Nurul Alam (Dhaka Range), Former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Former Election Secretary (unnamed)
Confirming the case, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Imamul Haque stated that the complainant has alleged these individuals used threats and administrative influence to manipulate election outcomes, effectively undermining constitutional obligations. The complaint asserts that the accused ensured victories for selected candidates without public voting.
