Some 50 persons of both the rival groups of Mallikerber Union BNP under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district including 3 journalists were injured when repeated clashes were taken place between them over the holding of a meeting of the Union BNP committee at Sayannasi Bazar on Sunday afternoon and it continued till the following morning (Monday), according to a report received here.
Following the clashes the (Union) BNP office, at least 20 shops and 10 dwelling houses belonging to the rival groups of BNP were ransacked, according a report received on Monday afternoon.
It is learnt from the police of Rampal PS that a tense situation had been prevailing between the supporters of two possible Union BNP president candidates Abdul Alim and Sajarul Islam alias Saju for the last three months and consequently, an armed clash was happened at Sayannashi Bazara on Sunday afternoon frequently between the supporters of two rival probable candidates for the post of the Union BNP president ship and continued till the following morning (Monday). As a result, some 50 BNP leaders and activists were injured.
