NN Online:
The BNP on Thursday fiercely criticized National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman for his recent comments involving the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, demanding his swift removal from office.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, speaking at a press conference held at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan, said, “People across the country are shocked, outraged, and deeply concerned by the NSA’s remarks about Tarique Rahman.”
Rizvi alleged that Dr. Khalilur’s statement echoed the narrative often used by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whom he described as a “symbol of fascism,” accusing her of attempting to defame the Zia family in order to push forward a false image of development while undermining democracy.
“There can be no room for experimentation when it comes to the state. We demand the immediate dismissal of Dr. Khalil from the post of National Security Adviser, along with full public disclosure regarding his background and current status, both domestically and internationally,” Rizvi asserted.
He further claimed that instead of clarifying his own standing, Dr. Khalilur has launched a smear campaign against Tarique Rahman in an effort to distract the public—paralleling, in Rizvi’s words, the tactics of “fugitive dictator Hasina.”
Calling Dr. Khalilur a “controversial figure” with alleged foreign affiliations, Rizvi pressed for answers to critical questions: “Where was he during the long years of fascism? What was his status? Which country did he reside in? What role did he play against authoritarian rule?”
The BNP leader warned that the people of Bangladesh would not tolerate such alleged propaganda or efforts to deflect from accountability.
