Salahuddin Ahmed, a standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on Friday called for a definitive roadmap to be announced for holding the next parliamentary elections by December.

“An aspiration has been created within the nation for a free and fair parliamentary election,” Salahuddin told reporters while distributing food among the poor at the High Court Mazar Gate in Dhaka.

“We also have expressed our expectations aligning with the aspirations of the nation.”

His remarks came on the occasion of the 44th death anniversary of former president and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

Earlier in the day, Salahuddin also distributed clothing to destitute people on Manik Mia Avenue.

Paying tribute to Ziaur Rahman, the BNP leader described him as a pivotal figure in the nation’s history.

“Ziaur Rahman was born for the independence of this country. He embraced martyrdom protecting the independence of this country,” Salahuddin said.

He credited the late president with introducing multiparty democracy and establishing a judicial council aimed at ensuring judicial independence.

According to Salahuddin, Ziaur Rahman’s assassination was a calculated
move to suppress democracy and development in Bangladesh.

Reaffirming his party’s political vision, Salahuddin vowed, “We shall establish the foundation of democracy and constitutional framework of this country and transform this country into a social justice-based, nondiscriminatory one.”

The BNP has repeatedly called for an inclusive electoral process under a neutral administration, a demand that remains central to the party’s current political stance.
