A delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is set to meet Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus today at 6 PM at the State Guest House Jamuna.
BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan confirmed the meeting to reporters on Sunday following the party’s discussions with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.
“BNP will present its proposal for a national election roadmap to the chief adviser on Monday,” Khan stated. He emphasised that the party would oppose any recommendations by the Reform Commission if they hinder the path to a free and fair election.
The BNP delegation at the meeting was led by Nazrul Islam Khan, accompanied by fellow Standing Committee members Selima Rahman and Salah Uddin Ahmed.
After nearly an hour-long discussion, Khan briefed the media, revealing that the Election Commission (EC) is expected to be fully prepared to hold the national election by May or June.
“After our discussions with the Election Commission, we understand that they will be fully ready to conduct the national election by May or June. Based on this, an early election is possible,” Khan told reporters.
When asked about the topics discussed, Khan clarified that their conversations revolved solely around election-related matters.
“There is no other topic of discussion with the Election Commission apart from elections. We exchanged views on their current activities and preparations for the upcoming national polls,” he said.
He further added that with an updated voter list, the Election Commission would be fully prepared to conduct the election within the proposed timeline.
The meeting with the Chief Adviser is expected to focus on BNP’s election-related concerns and proposals, as the party continues its push for a credible and timely national election.
