BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi claimed on Sunday that the party’s acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, delivered a speech through the Zoom app to maintain communication with party leaders and activists, which was distorted using deep fake video technology by employing artificial intelligence (AI).
He stated that the deep fake video is being circulated through a few pro-government online platforms and media outlets and is being used to extort money from BNP’s well-wishers both at home and abroad.
Rizvi added that deep fake videos of not only the acting chairman but also of BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and other members are being created.
He made these remarks during a press briefing held at BNP’s Nayapaltan Central Office.
Rizvi mentioned that after an investigation conducted by BNP’s IT department, they found that a man named Nahid Rain, who has been accused of deception and convicted, is leading the campaign against the opposition to tarnish their image with the help of the Awami League (AL).
He alleged that it is a matter of great sorrow, but the truth is that the prime criminal is being promoted both online and offline by an influential foreigner.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi demanded the immediate arrest of Nahid Rain for the crime of extortion in the name of BNP leaders.
He also stated that before the January 7 dummy election, the AL had published numerous deep fake videos on social media portraying false developments by using various international media anchors and logos.
Moreover, they also created deep fake videos about the US Dhaka Embassy using AI, he continued.
Recognising the importance of deep fake videos, Financial Times correspondent Benjamin Parkin published a report on December 14, 2023, demonstrating how a miscreant ring of pro-AL individuals is creating deep fake videos using AI.
