BNP leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal’s workers and supporters blocked a train and staged a protest march demanding that he be declared the party’s candidate for Kishoreganj-5 (Nikli-Bajitpur) constituency.

On Thursday afternoon , a procession started from in front of Sarachar Shibnath High School in Bajitpur Upazila.

It went around Sarachar Bazar and took up position at the Railgate intersection. At that time, the agitating supporters blocked the ‘Kishoreganj Express’ train from Kishoreganj to Dhaka for some time.

Later, the Upazila BNP leaders removed the supporters and normalized the train movement.

It is learnt that the train was stopped for about 15 minutes.
BNP, Bajitpur upazila general secretary Moniruzzaman Monir addressed the rally in the Railgate area.

He said, “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal is the heartbeat of the people of Bajitpur-Nikli.

I will request the BNP leaders not to snatch this seat, not to lose its dignity. We want Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal to be nominated with the paddy sheaf symbol.”

He further said, “I urge Begum Khaleda Zia, patriot Tarique Rahman and central leaders to immediately announce the name of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal. Until that happens, we will remain on the streets.

The people of Bajitpur-Nikli will not accept anyone other than Iqbal as the BNP candidate.”

More than a hundred local BNP leaders and activists participated in the program. BNP leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal was called several times to inquire about the matter, but he did not answer.
