Bangladesh National Lawyers’ Association (BNLA) has said it is not possible to conduct a fair election in the country without a scientific electoral system.
The BNLA leaders said this at a meeting of the executive committee of the organisation recently at the Supreme Court Lawyers’ Association Building in the city.
They urged the government to make the election acceptable by abolishing the colonial election system and introducing a ‘scientific electoral system’. Such a provision is crucial to conduct peaceful elections at lower costs with party nominations and in a violence-free manner, they added.
They suggested to form national unity government after the polls.
President of the association Senior Advocate Shah Md. Kharuzzaman presided over the meeting. BNLA Secretary General Advocate Md. Sagir Anwar, vice-president Advocate A. Rob Howladar, Md. Ashrajuzzaman, Md. Shahed Ali Jinnah, Sheikh Rezaul Karim, Faizur Rahman Shaheen Chowdhury, Abduch Chabur Dewan, Md. Kamal Hossain, Sabina Yasmin Lippi and others spoke in the event.
Bangladesh National Lawyers Association is a non-partisan federation of all bar associations in the country.
