Business Report :

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has achieved a record profit of Tk 9.37 billion in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

By earning this unaudited profit, the state-owned carrier claimed to have set an unprecedented milestone in its 55-year history.

The announcement came through a press release issued on Monday by Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Expressing gratitude to passengers and customers for this financial success, Biman said their trust and support were the biggest strength behind achieving this record profit. The success, it added, came from efficient resource management, adoption of effective strategies, and continuous improvement in passenger services.

The release further mentioned that the second-highest profit in Biman’s history was in FY 2021-22, amounting to Tk 4.40 billion.

Biman began its journey in 1972 with revenue of just Tk 19 million. From war-ravaged Bangladesh, with limited infrastructure and resources, the airline has gradually grown into a modern and competitive carrier.

According to Biman’s accounts, in the outgoing fiscal year the company earned Tk 116.31 billion. In FY 2023-24, for the first time, Biman’s revenue crossed the Tk 100 billion mark.
Since its establishment in 1972, Biman has posted profits in 26 years out of its 55-year journey. After being transformed from a corporation into a public limited company in 2007, Biman’s accumulated profit over the past 18 years stood at Tk 5.89 billion.
Biman reported that in FY 2024-25 its fleet consisted of 21 aircraft, of which 19 are currently owned. The fleet includes four Boeing 787-8s and two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners-modern and fuel-efficient aircraft.
According to the airline, another major strength is its own fleet maintenance capability. From line maintenance to heavy checks, all can be completed within Bangladesh, saving significant costs.
The press release also stated that in FY 2024-25, Biman carried 3.4 million passengers, transported 43,918 tonnes of cargo, and raised its cabin factor to 82 percent- a notable improvement compared to the previous year.
In addition, Biman announced that this January marked the highest ticket sales in its history.
As part of its future plans, the state-owned carrier aims to expand routes to new popular destinations, drive digital transformation in passenger service and operations, and strengthen its cargo services. By ensuring service quality, reliability, and safety, Biman said its goal is to become one of the leading airlines in South Asia.
