The Bangladesh Hindu Law Reform Council has condemned the recent attacks on Hindu, Buddhist, and other religious minority communities across various parts of the country, exploiting the political situation.
On Thursday, Professor Dr Moyna Talukdar, president of the Bangladesh Hindu Law Reform Council, and Pulak Ghatak, general secretary, issued a statement denouncing these attacks.
The statement reads: “Taking advantage of the political situation, criminals are perpetrating horrific atrocities on Hindu, Buddhist, and other religious minority communities across the country. Countless people are now suffering and in danger. The air is thick with the cries of people who are tormented by threats, murder, torture, looting, arson, and various other forms of violence. We strongly protest all these injustices. We demand that the authorities responsible for ensuring the safety of minority communities take action. We call for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.”
The statement further calls on the Hindu and Buddhist communities to unite with strong resolve to repel the offenders. It also urges the citizens of the country to maintain trust among neighbors, set aside differences, and stand together with the affected people, while building a social resistance to combat these issues.
