Bhabna at Cannes Film Festival

The 12-day Cannes Film Festival has started. This prestigious event in the world of cinema is sitting in the city of Cannes in the south-eastern region of France. Bangladeshi actress Ashna Habib Bhabna reached there.

She went there to experience the Cannes Film Festival directly out of her own interest.

Bhabna arrived there on the night of May 12, Bangladesh time, to participate in the Cannes Film Festival.

On reaching the Facebook post Bhabna wrote, “From Old Dhaka to Festival de Cannes.”

On Wednesday, Bhabna told this correspondent, “For me it is like a dream come true.

I have long wanted to come to the Cannes festival. It is a great achievement that I have come here through my own efforts. I would like to bring a movie.”

Actress Bhabna also said, “Here I am meeting with film directors and producers of many countries. I have an idea of how big the world cinema market is. My desire to act is increasing.”

Some 22 movies from different countries got place in the competition category.

18 movies will compete at this level. The curtain will come down on May 25 during the award ceremony.

France’s movie ‘The Second Act’ has been selected as the opening film of the festival. Quentin Dupieux directed this comedy genre movie starring Lea Seydoux, Vincent Lindel, Raphael Quinard, etc.

This time, five of the nine people on the jury board of the main competition are women. ‘Barbie’ famed director and actress Greta Gerwig will serve as the head of the jury board.

Besides, American actress Lily Gladstone, French actress Eva Green, French actor and producer Omar Sy, Lebanese director and screenwriter Nadine Labaki, Spanish director and screenwriter Juan Antonio Bayona, Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, Turkish screenwriter and photographer Ebru Ceylan, and Italian actor Pierfrancisco Favino are eight jurors who will be joining jury president Greta Gerwig for the event’s 2024 edition (May 14 to 25).
