Eight days into his abduction, Myanmar border force has finally returned Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Nayek Abdur Razzak. Border Guard Police (BGP) handed Nayek Razzak along with his personal arms and ammunition over to the BGB around 3pm on Thursday following a flag meeting held at Maungdaw of Myanmar, said Major Aminul Islam, additional director (operations) of BGB Cox’s Bazar sector headquarters. A seven-member BGB delegation, led by commanding officer of BGB Battalion-42 in Teknaf Lt Col Abu Jar Al Zahid, participated in the flag meeting. Also, a seven-man delegation of BGP took part in the meeting. The BGB team along with Nayek Abdur Razzak arrived in Teknaf of Cox’s in the evening. They reached the BGB Immigration Ghat of the Naf River in Teknaf around 6:33pm. While talking to reporters at the Immigration Ghat, Lt Col Abu Jar Al Zahid said both sides agreed at the flag meeting that they will exchange information regularly on different border issues. The border forces of Bangladesh and Myanmar will also maintain a friendly atmosphere along the border, he said. Earlier, the seven-member BGB team went to Maungdaw, opposite to Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, in the morning to attend the flag meeting over Razzak’s handover. On June 17, when a team of seven BGB personnel was patrolling Jadimura canal area near Domdomia Border Outpost of Teknaf early in the morning, BGP soldiers suddenly appeared with a boat and started firing on one of the BGB patrol boats, injuring sepoy Biplob. When another BGB patrol boat reached the spot, the Myanmar border force disappeared from the scene taking away Nayek Razzak along with his SMG loaded with bullets. Immediately, the BGB contacted high officials of Myanmar BGP as well as the Myanmar Police headquarters and asked for immediate return of Nayek Razzak. On June 23, BGP sent a letter to the commanding officer of BGB Battalion-42 Abu Jar calling for a flag meeting over the handover of the BGB man. — Dhaka, June 25 (UNB)
