Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth Tk 177.21 crore during anti-smuggling drives across border areas and other regions in August 2025, according to a press release issued on Sunday.
The confiscated items include 13.44 kg of gold, 18.73 kg of silver, 8,739 sarees, 4,903 pieces of three-piece/cloths/blankets, 3,977 ready-made garments, 9,603 meters of fabric, 441,172 pieces of cosmetics, 41,331 imitation ornaments, 14,01,513 fireworks, 4,546 cubic feet of wood, 2,194 kg of tea leaves, 7,321 kg of betel nut, 1,376 kg of fertilizer, 45,550 kg of coal, 53,545 kg of nets and threads, 865 mobile phones, 6,707 mobile displays, 20,104 sunglasses, 7,220 vehicle parts, 7,318 kg of cumin, 14,373 kg of sugar, 4,467 kg of onion, 8,388 kg of garlic, 1,062 seed packets, 289,961 chocolates, and several vehicles including 12 trucks, 13 pickups/tractors, 6 cars/microbuses, 156 boats, 40 CNGs/easy bikes, 56 motorcycles, and 35 bicycles/vans.
Seized arms and ammunition include three pistols, one revolver, one SMG, three rifles, 16 magazines, 815 rounds of ammunition, and eight other weapons, according to the BGB.
The BGB also made major drug recoveries: 12,37,693 yaba tablets, 4.6 kg heroin, 7,888 bottles of Phensedyl, 9,525 bottles of foreign liquor, 167 liters of locally brewed alcohol, 577 cans of beer, 1,548 kg of cannabis, 255,698 packets of cigarettes, 202 kg of tobacco leaves, 20 bottles of LSD, 174,715 narcotic injections/pills, 4,145 bottles of Eskuf syrup, 20,720 tablets of Anagra/Senegra, and over 1.8 million other medicines and tablets.
During these operations, 209 smugglers were arrested. BGB also detained 160 Bangladeshi nationals and 11 Indians for illegal border crossing. Additionally, 546 Myanmar nationals attempting to enter Bangladesh were pushed back.
